RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team (0-1-0) begins a two-match home stand hosting Western Michigan (1-0-0) on Sunday, August 20 at the EKU Soccer Field.
The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start with free admission to the complex, as a reminder, admission is free to the EKU Soccer Field for the duration of the 2023 season. Sunday's match is World Cup Day at the pitch with free cowbells and Brazilian drum performances throughout the contest.
Fans not able to make Sunday's non-conference home opener can view the match streamed live on ESPN+ with Greg Stotelmyer and Wes Chandler on the call.
EKU suffered a 1-0 loss at Kentucky to open the season on Thursday,
Marah Krick, named EKU's starting keeper, led the defensive effort with two saves on 14 shots faced. EKU attempted three shots, all on target, in the season opener from
Maddy Murphy,
Gretta Gunn, and
Kylie Fitzgerald.
In total, eight Colonels made their EKU debut in Thursday's loss to Kentucky.
Western Michigan continues its bluegrass tour coming off a 1-0 win at Northern Kentucky on Thursday, graduate forward Jen Blitchok lifted the Broncos to victory netting her attempt in the 84th minute. WMU claimed the advantage over NKU in shots (11-4) and corners (10-5).
Sunday's match is the first meeting between EKU and Western Michigan in program history. The Colonels are seeking their first win over a Mid-American Conference (MAC) school since the 2021 season when EKU picked up consecutive 3-1 wins over Ohio and Northern Illinois.
