Colonels Begin Ten-Match Home Stand Against Marshall And Tennessee State

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis team (1-2, 0-0 ASUN) begins a ten-match home stand on Thursday against Marshall (1-1, 0-0 SBC) at 4:00 p.m. at the Greg Adams Tennis Center. On Friday, the Colonels will face off against former OVC rival Tennessee State (0-2, 0-0 OVC) at 2:00 p.m.

THE COLONELS
The Colonels enter the match with a 1-2 record, beating in-state rival Western Kentucky, 4-3 on Jan. 14 while losing to Jacksonville State, 2-4, on Jan. 19 and Louisville by a score of 1-6 on Jan. 20. In singles play against Louisville, the matches lasted three sets from the top five courts.
 
Emmeline Polevoi leads the Colonels in singles play this season, posting a 3-0 mark from the No. 4 court. She beat Louisville's Berta Miret in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2.
 
Masha Fedenko won the ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Jan. 17 for her performance against Western Kentucky, as she dominated in her singles match to win in straight sets from the No. 1 court, 6-1, 6-2.
 
SCOUTING MARSHALL
Marshall enters the match with a 1-1 record, as they won against Longwood and lost to #12 Virginia. Johanna Strom led the Herd in singles play in 2023, posting an 18-2 record from the top three courts. Aisling McGrane led Marshall in doubles play last season, boasting a 17-4 mark.
 
The Herd beat the Colonels by a score of 7-0 in 2023. EKU leads the all-time series against Marshall, 19-13.
 
SCOUTING TENNESSEE STATE
Tennessee State enters the match with a 0-2 mark, losing against Arkansas State and UT Chattanooga. Daniela Koleva earned the win from the No. 6 court in singles play against UT Chattanooga. The Tigers' No. 1 singles player, Perri Howard, played all 21 matches for ASUN foe Lipscomb last season.
 
The Colonels beat the Tigers by a score of 5-2 in 2023. EKU has won all 31 matches in the all-time series against Tennessee State.
