RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis team (2-3, 0-0 ASUN) hosts a doubleheader against Union College (Ky.) (0-0, 0-0 AAC) at 9:00 a.m. and Northern Kentucky (0-2, 0-0 Horizon) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
Students can earn double app points on the EKU Sports mobile app when attending the match against Northern Kentucky.
THE COLONELS
EKU enters the match with a 2-3 record, as they look to build momentum after beating Tennessee State, 6-1.
The Maroon and White are led by
Emmeline Polevoi in singles play, who leads the team with four wins from the No. 4 and 5 spots in the lineup.
Izem Elif Olcer is on a two-match winning streak in singles from the No. 6 spot, earning her first career collegiate singles win against Marshall on Jan. 25.
Zhansaya Bakytzhan followed Olcer by earning her first career collegiate singles win against Tennessee State on Jan. 26.
The Colonels earned the doubles point for the first time this season against Tennessee State, winning from the No. 2 and 3 courts in dominant fashion, 6-0.
Sasha Parkhomenko earned her first doubles win of the season with Polevoi from the No. 2 court against TSU. Olcer and Bakytzhan earned their first career collegiate doubles wins against Marshall on Jan. 25, 6-4.
SCOUTING UNION COLLEGE (Ky.)
Union College (Ky.) enters the contest ranked No. 18 in the latest NAIA team rankings, as they play their first matches of the season against the Colonels. Nicole Viljoen and Liliana Drukerova are the leading doubles pair for the Bulldogs, as they are ranked No. 7 in the latest NAIA doubles rankings. Union posted a 16-2 mark in 2023, finishing their season with a 4-2 loss against Westcliff at the NAIA Women's Tennis National Tournament. This will be the first match in the all-time series between Union and EKU.
SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Northern Kentucky enters the match with an 0-2 mark, losing 7-0 to Xavier and Western Kentucky. NKU ended last season at the Horizon League Tournament with a 4-2 loss to Milwaukee. The Norse beat the Colonels by a score of 4-3 twice in 2023, but EKU leads the all-time series 9-2.
