Colonels Face No. 3 Central Arkansas in ASUN Semifinals

First ASUN Semifinals Appearance in Program History

CONWAY, Ark. – The No. 5 seeded EKU women's basketball makes its first Atlantic Sun Conference semifinals appearance in program history facing No. 3 seed Central Arkansas on Tuesday night inside the Farris Center.
 
Tuesday's game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. EST and can be viewed on ESPN plus.  EKU's Wes Chandler have the call on 92.5 WEKY for those wishing to listen worldwide.
 
Fans making the trip to Conway can purchase tickets ranging from $20-25 online here or at the box office.  Doors to the Farris Center will open one hour before tipoff.
 
EKU (22-10, 9-7 ASUN) is coming off a 99-68 win over No. 4 seed Lipscomb in the quarterfinals last Saturday.  EKU's 99-point score was the most points scored in a conference tournament game in program history.
 
EKU's 22 wins in the 2023-24 season is tied for the fourth-most wins in program history.  The team's 10-6 road mark ties the most away wins since 1996-97.
 
First Team All-ASUN selection Antwainette Walker led all players with 20 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday, her 17th career double-double.
 
With a win on Tuesday, EKU would advance to the ASUN Championship to face either No. 1 seed FGCU or No. 7 seed Austin Peay on March 16th.  EKU would appear in its first conference championship game since going back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.
 
EKU Notes & Statistics
- Tuesday is EKU's 33rd game this season, the most games played in a single season in program history.
- EKU is second in the ASUN Conference in scoring offense (72.3) and scoring margin (+8.9), only behind No. 1 seed FGCU in both categories.
- The Colonels allow 63.3 points per game, marking the fifth-best defense in the league.
- EKU leads the league in turnovers forced (603) but is second behind FGCU in turnovers forced per game (18.8).
- Walker is second in the ASUN, first amongst players still in the tournament with 18.2 points per game. She's scored double figure points in 24 games this season.
- Alice Recanati, recently joining the ASUN's career top 25 list in assists, is up to a league leading 142 this season and 4.4 per game.  She's totaled 535 in her career and 445 in the ASUN.
- Recanati, Third Team All-ASUN selection, is also one of 15 players in NCAA DI, including Iowa's Caitlin Clark, with over 1,000 points, 500 assists, and 400 rebounds in their career.
 
All-Time vs. Central Arkansas
- Saturday's game is the 10th meeting between EKU and UCA, the Colonels leads the head-to-head series 5-4 since 2009 and 4-2 inside ASUN Conference play.
- EKU and UCA have split the series this season, both teams winning home games.
 
Scouting Central Arkansas
- The Sugar Bears are coached by Tony Kemper, who's in his first season with the program.
- UCA (20-10, 11-5 ASUN) has improved its win total by 12 this season, just one year removed from canceling their regular season due to insufficient players to form a roster.
- No. 3 seed Central Arkansas is coming off a win over No. 6 seed North Alabama by a score of 69-52 on Saturday.  UCA is 2-2 in its last four games.
- Junior guard Jade Upshaw leads the program with 12.2 points per game and has scored in double figures in her last three games.
- Upshaw and Randrea Wright claimed Second Team All-ASUN honors, while Kinley Fischer was named the ASUN Sixth Player of the Year.
