Colonels Make Short Trip North To Face Cincinnati Tuesday

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Eastern Kentucky University will make the short trip North to play Cincinnati on Tuesday.  The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (10-25, 7-8 ASUN) ended its series against Queens on Sunday with a 10-8 victory.
 
-  Ron Franklin Jr. hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs against Queens on Sunday.  He is the first Colonel to have seven RBIs in a game since March 22, 2019.  In his last 17 games, Franklin is batting .371 with nine home runs, 25 RBIs and 16 runs scored.  He has an .919 slugging percentage and a .637 on-base percentage during that span.


-  Max Williams hit .571 (8-for-14) with three runs and five RBIs in the three game series against Queens.  He slugged .929 and had a .600 on-base percentage.
 
-  Garrett Langrell is tied for sixth in the ASUN with three saves.
 
-  Freshman Elijah Underhill is due to start for on the mound for EKU.  He is 1-1 with a nine strikeouts in 10 innings this season.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Cincinnati is 20-16 overall and stands 7-8 in the Big 12 Conference.  The Bearcats were swept at No. 21 Oklahoma State over the weekend.
 
-  Senior outfielder Josh Hegemann leads the team with a .388 batting average.
 
-  Junior first baseman/catcher Josh Kross leads the team in home runs (12) and RBIs (48) while hitting .319.
 
-  Christian Mitchelle, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, has a team-best four saves.  He is 0-1 with a 3.20 ERA in 13 appearances.

-  Freshman Bradley Coulter will make his fourth start, and 12th appearance, of the season for Cincinnati.  He his 1-1 with a 7.71 ERA and has struck out 21 batters in 16 1/3 innings.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU holds a 31-30 edge over the Bearcats in the all-time series.  The two programs first met during the 1942 season.  Cincinnati has won nine straight in the series, including a 10-5 victory in Richmond on March 8, 2023.
 
-  In the most recent meeting, EKU took a 5-3 lead into the eighth inning but the Bearcats staged a late rally to earn the win.  Williams scored two runs for the Colonels and Logan Thomason drew three walks.  Michael Goehrig hit a 2-run home run and finished 1-for-2 with a run and two RBIs.  Alec Jones had a 2-for-5 day with two runs and two RBIs for UC.
