PARIS, France - Seizing his moment on the world's biggest stage, EKU alum Ahmed Jaziri put on the race of his life in the men's 3000m Steeplechase Finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics to bring home fifth-place.
Jaziri qualified for the final with a gutsy performance in the first round on Monday, fending off a late charge down the stretch to secure the final automatic qualifying spot of his heat.
In a tight race all the way to the final bell, Jaziri kept pace with the leaders the entire race and powered through with the best result of his career in the event. The former Colonel clocked a time of 8:08.02, shattering his previous personal best of 8:14.93 by over six seconds to secure the top-five finish.
Defending Olympic and World Champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco took the gold medal, followed by Kenneth Rooks of the USA with the silver medal and Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya with bronze. Fellow countryman Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui finished just ahead of Jaziri in fourth-place, setting a new Tunisian national record of 8:07.73.
