RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis team is set to kick of the spring 2025 season on the road as they take on three schools in two days.
The Colonel women start things off with a trip to Bowling Green, KY as they take on in-state rival Western Kentucky at 2 p.m. on Jan. 16. Afterwards, on Jan. 17, the Colonels head up to Ohio to square off with the Bearcats of Cincinnati at 1 p.m. During the return trip, the squad will make a stop in Crestview Hills, KY for a match against Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. to make the day a doubleheader.
SCOUTING THE LADY TOPPERSÂ
The Lady Toppers are coming off of a 14-11 season in 2024, tied for the fourth-most wins in a single season in program history. The season comes in the midst of the program's winningest three-year stretch in program history, tallying 47 wins during that period.
Four returners will take the courts for WKU including senior Rachel Hermanova, who enters the season ranked first in program history in career singles wins at 49. The Lady Toppers also bring in four transfer to fill out the roster in Stephen F. Austin transfer Carolina Chiatti, Nevada transfer Mia Miranda, Marshall transfer Emily Schut, and Valparaiso transfer Elizabeth Sobieski.
SERIES HISTORY
The Colonels lead the series against WKU 11-7, including a 4-3 in the programs' last meeting on Jan. 14, 2024. However, the Lady Toppers have won three of the previous four matchups.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcasts recorded an 8-15 record in the spring 2024 season. They return six athletes from last season. Cincinnati also brings in graduate transfer Milica Popovski and freshman Zeynep Erman.
SERIES HISTORY
The Colonels and the Bearcats have met three times since 2008 with the Bearcats holding a 2-1 lead in the series. The last time the two teams met was in 2018 in Richmond where the Bearcats managed to sneak away with a 4-3 victory.
SCOUTING THE NORSEÂ
The Norse return six players from a roster that went 6-12 in a 2024 season that saw them make an appearance in the Horizon League Championship semifinal.Â
SERIES HISTORY
EKU holds a 4-2 advantage in the series since 2009. The Norse have won two of the past three meetings, but the Colonels grabbed the win in last season's meeting, 6-1.
