EKU Women’s Basketball Ends Non-Conference Slate Hosting Hampton

Colonels Searching for Ninth Win Before ASUN Play

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team returns from winter break Monday afternoon to close the non-conference portion of its schedule, hosting Hampton inside Baptist Health Arena.

Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Tickets start at $5 and can be purchased online here or at the door. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with audio coverage available on the Colonels All-Access page.

EKU (8-4) enters the contest riding a 20-point road victory over Presbyterian College on Dec. 19. Two days earlier, the Colonels battled No. 16 Louisville inside the KFC Yum! Center, leading 19-14 after one quarter and trailing by just three points, 30-27, at halftime before falling 76-51.

Sophomore guard Liz Freihofer continues to pace the Colonels, averaging 13.7 points per game while ranking second on the team with 6.3 rebounds per contest. The Kentucky native has scored in double figures in 10 of EKU's 12 games this season.

EKU has received consistent production throughout the lineup, including 12.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game from senior forward Joseana Vaz, 9.6 points per game from freshman guard Kenleigh Woods, and 9.3 points with 4.5 assists per game from senior guard Althea Kara Angeles. Senior guard Ndidiamaka Ndukwe has also found her rhythm, scoring 15 points in two of her last three outings.

The Colonels' depth received a boost in the 81-61 win at Presbyterian, as senior forward Ella Bradley returned to the lineup after missing three games with an injury. Bradley contributed five points, three assists, and two steals in limited minutes off the bench.

As of Sunday, EKU leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in overall wins (eight) and home victories (five) and sits fourth in the league standings heading into conference play. The Colonels rank among the NCAA's top 50 teams in 3-pointers made per game (8.7), 3-point attempts per game (25.5), 3-point percentage defense (26.3%), and defensive rebounds per game (28.8).

Scouting Hampton
Hampton (6-5) looks to snap a two-game skid after losses to Howard (64-60) and Radford (73-67, OT). The Lady Pirates have not recorded a win since Dec. 6, however, have won three games while playing most of the last month on the road at the Puerto Rico Classic, Orlando HBCU Invitational, and Battle of the Real HU in Washington, D.C.

Junior guard Kayla Lezama leads Hampton, averaging 11.8 points per game. The Boston native has scored in double figures in each of her last three contests.

Series History
Monday's matchup marks the second all-time meeting between EKU and Hampton. The Colonels won the first meeting last season on the road, 69-55.
