Women’s Tennis Hits Road for Three Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis program will hit the road for three matches this weekend beginning at Jacksonville State on Friday, at Chattanooga on Saturday, and at Middle Tennessee on Sunday.
 
EKU (4-5) will be searching for its first victory since Jan. 24 after dropping three consecutive matches to Marshall and Kentucky—all on the road.  Friday's match against JSU is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.  For the other two matches, Saturday at UTC will begin at 4 p.m. and Sunday at MTSU will serve at 5 p.m.

Junior Marilou Cote leads the Colonels with a 5-3 singles record from the middle three courts, including an undefeated 2-0 showing from court No. 2.  
 
Other Colonels Izem Elif Olcer (3-3), Anastasiia Cherniakova (3-4), and Sasha Parkhomenko (2-3) are either at or nearing .500 this season in their singles play.  EKU has used five different student athletes in court Nos. 2-3, they lead the lineup with a combined 8-7 record through nine matches.
 
In doubles play, EKU will be searching for its first win since the Lindsey Wilson match at home three outings ago.  Last time in the doubleheader at Kentucky, the Colonels' No. 1 pair of Cherniakova and Masha Fedenko went 0-2 overall but kept it close only being defeated by two games against the Wildcats' No. 1 showing.
 
Scouting Jacksonville State
Friday's match is Jacksonville State's third of the season, splitting their first two of the year with a loss to Samford and win over Presbyterian.  Junior Irene Artigas is 1-1 from the Gamecocks' top court.
 
Scouting Chattanooga
Chattanooga enters play on Saturday with a 2-4 overall record and won its last game over Northwestern State, 6-1.  Sophomore Madlena Orlova has won her last two matches from court No. 2.
 
Scouting Middle Tennessee
Middle Tennessee (3-3) enters play on Sunday winners in three of its last four matches against Lipscomb, Chattanooga, and Louisville.  The Blue Raiders' No. 1 Alessia Truden has won two of her last four matches from the top court while IIaria Sposetti and Lena Peyer are both 3-3 overall from the next two courts.
