RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University will host Rhode Island for a 3-game series this weekend at Earle Combs Stadium.

Friday's opener will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday's contest is now scheduled for 7 p.m. The series finale is on Sunday at 1 p.m. Friday's game will air live on ESPN+.

FREE EKU beanies will be given to the first 100 fans at the game on Saturday.

THE COLONELS
-Â EKU (0-12) is coming off a midweek loss at home to No. 23 ranked Kentucky, the Colonels' first home game of the season.

Nathan Lawson provided the Colonels with a solid start against the ranked Wildcats. He allowed just one run on two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two in three innings on the mound.

- Â In a 3-game series at West Georgia last weekend, freshman
AJ Groeneveld hit .556 with three runs and three RBIs. He leads the team in multi-hit games this season.

Ryker Walton, who is 0-3 with a 4.85 ERA, will get the ball on Friday night. The senior has 16 strikeouts and just six walks in 13 innings on the mound. Redshirt sophomore
Bradley Gagen will start game two. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA. Freshman right-hander
Carson van Haaren will start the series finale on Sunday. He is 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-Â Rhode Island is off to a 4-8 start to the season after a midweek, 5-4, loss in its home-opener against Sacred Heart on Tuesday.

-  In a 4-game series against No. 11 ranked Oregon, the Rams won the opener 12-11 and lost game two of the series 1-0 in 11 innings. Rhode Island also scored 36 runs in a 7-inning victory over William & Mary earlier this season.

-  Anthony DePino is batting .412 and leads the team in runs (21), doubles (6), home runs (8) and is second in RBIs (16). Four Rams are batting .400 or better on the season and URI is hitting .324 as a team.

-  Junior Jeremy Urena will start on the mound in Friday's series opener. The right-hander has a 1-0 record and a 10.93 ERA in three starts this season. He has walked six and struck out seven in 14 innings. Saturday's starter will be graduate student Trystan Levesque. The lefty is 0-0 with a 4.82 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings of work. Sunday's starter has not been determined.
