MOREHEAD, Ky. – Riding a two-match win streak, the Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team will travel to face rival Morehead State in the 18th edition of the Bluegrass Cup on Thursday.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET under the lights at the MSU Soccer Field on ESPN+.
EKU (3-1) enters the week undefeated against fellow mid-major opponents and fresh off wins over South Carolina Upstate and East Tennessee State.
Two Colonels earned Atlantic Sun Conference honors for their performances last week. Junior midfielder
Chiara Premoli was named ASUN Player of the Week after recording three assists, while freshman goalkeeper
Jordan LeVasseur collected ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week honors with seven saves and a shutout against ETSU.
Since its lone loss at current No. 5 Tennessee, EKU has climbed into the national rankings. As of Wednesday, the Colonels rank in the top 100 nationally in saves, saves per game, shot accuracy, assists, assists per game, goals, and points.
Premoli enters the week ranked second in the NCAA in total assists (4) and fourth in assists per game (1.00). In goal, LeVasseur sits with a perfect 2-0 record and ranks second in the nation in saves per game (9.00).
EKU's balanced attack has produced seven goals from six different players this season. Sophomore forward
Ella Grode, a preseason All-ASUN selection, leads the way with two goals, both scored in the opener against Toledo.
Scouting Morehead State
Morehead State (1-2) is coming off a 2-0 loss at Chattanooga on Sunday. The Eagles' lone win came in a 1-0 decision over ASUN member Austin Peay on Aug. 17.
Freshman defender Faith Piper netted the game-winner in that match while playing the full 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Claire Cress, a Richmond native, has started all three matches and tallied 19 saves.
History vs. Morehead State
Thursday's matchup marks the 18th installment of the Bluegrass Cup, the annual rivalry between EKU and Morehead State that began in 2005. The Eagles lead the all-time series 9-6-2, including a 2-1 win in last year's meeting in Richmond.
