Chelulei Opens Weekend with Another Record for Track & Field

BOSTON / LOUISVILLE – Two days of competition opened with a bang for Eastern Kentucky University's track and field teams on Friday, competing at the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University and the PNC Lenny Lyles Classic hosted by Louisville.

In Boston, Edna Chelulei claimed her second school record of the indoor season with one of the top times in the nation in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:52.79.

Chelulei took her first school record back in December in Boston with a time of 15:42.14 in the 5,000m.

Back in the Commonwealth, fresh off being named the ASUN Freshman of the Week, Metrine Serem ran her first 800m of the season, finishing 6th in a time of 2:13.01, putting her less than four seconds away from cracking the top-five all-time at EKU.

Also running their first 800m as a Colonel was Hamish Murray on the men's side, finishing 8th with a time of 1:52.54, just two seconds away from the men's indoor top-five all-time.

Both meets continue tomorrow, beginning with the men's shot put in Louisville at 9 a.m.
