RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will play host to Marshall on Wednesday at Turkey Hughes Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The Colonels enter the game at 11-7 (2-1 OVC) and fresh off a 6-3 road loss to Ohio on Tuesday afternoon. Marshall arrives in Richmond with a record of 10-11 (2-1 C-USA).
EKU is 17-19 against Marshall since 1984. The Thundering Herd swept a doubleheader from the Colonels last season in Richmond, winning the first game 9-3 and the second game 4-2.
EKU comes into this week ranked in the top-10 nationally with a .346 team batting average. Sophomore
Jayson Langfels leads the Colonels with a .419 batting average, six home runs and 25 RBI. Senior
Matt Davis, meanwhile, is batting .411 with an OVC-best 30 runs from the leadoff spot. His 14 game hitting streak ended yesterday at Ohio.
Marshall is led offensively by Ben Jurevicius, who comes into Wednesday’s game batting .365. Nate Lape, meanwhile, leads the Thundering Herd with six home runs.
Following Marshall, the Colonels will host Morehead State this weekend in a three-game conference series at Turkey Hughes Field.
