BOWLING GREEN, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will go for its fourth straight win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Wednesday night at Nick Denes Field. The Colonels defeated WKU, 8-7, earlier this year at home.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.

EKU’s winning streak over WKU on the diamond dates back to April 25, 2007 when the Colonels defeated the Hilltoppers, 16-11, at Turkey Hughes Field. They then won at Nick Denes Field last year, 9-5, before a Jayson Langfels walk-off in March of this year extended the streak to three games.

Despite the winning streak, WKU still leads the overall record between the two schools, 71-59-2.

The Colonels (20-16, 6-8 OVC) had lost eight of their last nine before yesterday when they pounded Xavier at home, 11-6.

The Colonels are paced by their explosive offense. As of Wednesday, they are batting .354 as a team and averaging over 10 runs per game. Both Langfels and senior Matt Davis enter the game carrying an impressive .460 batting average. Langfels is the national leader in RBI per game (1.79) while Davis in tops in the country in runs per game (1.83).

Other Colonels swinging hot bats include senior Tyler Rehmel (.392 batting average, 34 RBI) and freshman Jacob Daniel (.367 batting average, four triples).

WKU (27-11, 14-4 Sun Belt) is 15-6 since their ninth-inning defeat at Turkey Hughes Field in March. The Hilltoppers enter Wednesday's game having won six of their last eight, including taking two of three from conference foe Arkansas State last weekend.

WKU is led at the plate by leadoff man Matt Rice, who carries a team-best .413 batting average into Wednesday’s game along with 51 RBI. Wade Gaynor and Chad Cregar, meanwhile, provide the power. Gaynor has slugged 14 home runs while Cregar has hit 12.
