RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team plated nine runs in the decisive third inning in a 15-3 victory over visiting Chicago State Friday afternoon at Turkey Hughes Field. This was the first of three games in a non-conference series this weekend.
Every starter scored at least one run for the Colonels (22-20) while junior
Anthony Ottrando, senior
Tyler Rehmel and freshman
Dustin Dunlop tallied a home run. Freshman
Greg Terry (2-1) went all seven innings on the mound, struck out nine Cougars and did not allow an earned run.
After Chicago State (3-36) jumped on top in the first inning behind an EKU error and an RBI single from Albert Carpen, the Colonels responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Senior
Matt Davis’ sacrifice fly in the second inning then put Eastern ahead, 3-2.
The Colonels put the game away the following frame with nine runs. Ottrando’s two-run blast to center field, which was also EKU’s first hit of the game, made the score 5-2. Following a pair of singles from freshmen
Michael Garcia and #A.J. Jamison#, fellow freshman
Richie Rodriguez extended the cushion with a two-run double to the gap in left-center field. Rehmel capped the outburst with a two-run homer to left field.
In the fourth inning, Dunlop’s pinch-hit, three-run home run made the score 15-2.
Eastern and Chicago State continue the series tomorrow, May 2, with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
