RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will end its four-game home stand on Saturday when rival Morehead State visits McBrayer Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game, presented by Coca-Cola, is a battle for second place in the Ohio Valley Conference as the league schedule reaches its halfway point.
The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com. The game will also air live on television throughout Kentucky on Wazoo Sports Network, channel 305 on Time Warner Cable in Richmond.
In addition, Saturday is Basketball Alumni Day. Several former Lady Colonels will be in attendance and will be recognized at halftime.
Eastern Kentucky (9-9) sits in third place in the OVC standings at 5-3. Morehead State (13-7) is in second place with a 6-2 league mark .
This is the 77th meeting between the two teams. EKU leads the all-time series 39-37. Morehead State has won six straight in the series, but is 14-22 all-time in Richmond. The two teams have played every season since 1971-72.
Morehead State leads the nation in three-point field goals per game (10.3). Eastern Kentucky is second in the OVC and 49th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense (28.1 percent). The Eagles (58.8 ppg) and Lady Colonels (59.3 ppg) rank first and second respectively in the OVC in scoring defense. EKU (+2.6) and MSU (+1.3) rank first and second respectively in the OVC in rebounding margin.
In their last game, the Lady Colonels took a 21-point lead with 12:18 left in the game but had to hold off a rally by Southern Illinois Edwardsville in a 58-53 victory on Wednesday. The Cougars used a 25-7 run to close the gap to three in the final minute of play.
Shakeyia Colyer contributed a career-best 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. Michaelea Kleist contributed 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Just like EKU, Morehead State opened conference play by winning its first five games. Jacksonville State handed the Eagles their first OVC loss, 70-60. In a pair of home games this past weekend, MSU beat Southeast Missouri 75-37 before falling to Eastern Illinois 62-60.
Junior guard Chynna Bozeman leads the team and the OVC in scoring at 17.8 points per game. Bozeman has made 63-of-206 three-pointers. She also averages five rebounds and three assists per game.
Senior guard Tiffany Hamilton averages 12.5 points per game. Sophomore guard Courtney Lumpkin averages 10.2 points per contest. Freshman forward Ashar Harris leads the conference in rebounding at 9.2 boards per game and averages 6.3 points.
As a team, Morehead State has out-scored its opponents by 7.2 points per game. The Eagles have limited opponents to 58.8 points per game and 29.8 percent shooting from three-point range.
