RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will host a pair of Ohio Valley Conference games this week beginning with Tennessee Tech on Thursday. Aramark is the game sponsor and tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at McBrayer Arena.

The game will air live in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.

Eastern Kentucky enters the game 9-12 overall and 5-6 in OVC play. Tennessee Tech is also 9-12 this season and one game behind EKU in the conference standings at 4-7.

This is the 76th meeting between the two teams. TTU leads the all-time series 55-20. The Golden Eagles are 20-13 all-time in Richmond. The Lady Colonels have lost eight of their last 10 against Tech.

In their last game, a late 9-0 run gave the Lady Colonels a two-point lead, but a three minute scoring drought allowed Tennessee State to escape with a 61-54 win on Sunday in Nashville. EKU shot 43.6 percent from the field but TSU turned 25 Lady Colonel turnovers into 25 points and out-scored Eastern by 20 at the free throw line. Freshman Shakeyia Colyer led Eastern Kentucky with 11 points. Senior Sarah Fraser-Jones had nine points and four assists.

After starting OVC play with five straight wins, EKU has now lost six straight league games. The conference losing skid began on Jan. 9 when Tennessee Tech beat Eastern 75-47 in Cookeville.

In the first meeting of the season between the two teams, Tennessee Tech won by 28 points, shot 41.8 percent from the field, made 10 three-pointers and out-rebounded EKU by 26, including grabbing 18 offensive boards.

EKU has held opponents to 27.6 percent shooting from three-point range this season, 26th best in the nation. However, in the first game this season between the two teams, TTU shot 47.6 percent from three-point range.

Tennessee Tech has gone 2-4 since beating Eastern Kentucky. The Golden Eagles beat Austin Peay by 21 and Southeast Missouri by three at home. TTU lost to UT Martin and Murray State on the road, and Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois at home.

On Saturday, Tennessee Tech out-rebounded Southeast Missouri by 19 and had 17 offensive rebounds in a 59-56 win. Tacarra Hayes led TTU with 19 points. Kylie Cook had 13 points and eight rebounds. Krystal Stirrup contributed seven points and 10 boards.

Hayes, a two-time OVC Player of the Week, leads the team in scoring (16.8 ppg), rebounding (5.9 rpg), assists (4.2 apg) and steals (2.1 spg). Cook, a freshman, is giving the Golden Eagles 12.5 points and five rebounds per contest.

TTU’s strength is in its offense. In the first meeting between the two teams, Tech shot 41.8 percent from the field and hit 10 three-points, shooting 47.6 percent from deep. The Golden Eagles average 65 points per contest which is fourth in the conference. TTU makes an average of six three-pointers per game.
