EKU Baseball Set to Face Vols on Wednesday

The EKU Baseball team took one of three at Western Carolina over the weekend
RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will head down I-75 tomorrow to take on the Tennessee Volunteers at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in midweek non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

The Colonels (1-2) took one of three at Western Carolina this weekend in their opening series while Tennessee (4-2) swept Xavier to begin the season but dropped two of three at No. 10 Oregon State over the weekend.

The last time these schools met was 2001 when the Vols defeated EKU, 18-1.

Sophomore lefty Greg Terry is scheduled to take the hill for the Colonels tomorrow. Terry pitched two separate stints of scoreless relief this weekend at WCU, most notably working 2.1 on Sunday and striking out three batters. The Bel Air, Md. native led EKU with 23 appearances as a freshman; however, this will only be his sixth career start.

Tennessee will send senior right-hander Steve Crnkovich to the mound tomorrow. Crnkovich has tossed three innings this season and allowed three runs on five hits.

EKU is led at the plate by the 3-4 combination of junior Jayson Langfels and senior Anthony Ottrando. Langfels, the OVC Co-Preseason Player of the Year, led the league with a .441 batting average and the nation with 1.67 RBI/game last season. Ottrando, meanwhile, blasted four home runs over the weekend at Western Carolina and is the reigning OVC Player of the Week.

Tennessee is paced offensively by Cody Hawn (.545 batting average) and Josh Liles (.462 batting average). Blake Forsythe leads the Vols with 10 RBI.

Following Tennessee, the Colonels will head to Clinton, S.C. to take on Presbyterian in a three game series.
