RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team plays host to Austin Peay State this weekend in a three-game conference series at Turkey Hughes Field. Both teams are an even 3-3 in conference play and tied for fourth in the OVC standings.

A doubleheader on Saturday will begin at 1 p.m. while a single game on Sunday is also scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.

The Colonels will look to get their bats going against the Governors as EKU is last in the conference with a .281 batting average in OVC play. Making matters worse, however, is that the APSU pitching staff is second in the league with a 5.06 ERA in OVC play.

EKU, though, does lead the conference with a .936 fielding percentage in OVC play. The Colonels have committed only three errors since league play began three weeks ago.

EKU will throw junior right-hander Stephen Hefler (2-2, 6.37 ERA in 35.1 innings of work), junior left-hander Paul Duncan (2-1, 5.00 ERA in 18.0 innings of work) and sophomore left-hander Greg Terry (2-1, 4.41 ERA in 34.2 innings of work) this weekend. Terry will be making his first conference start of the season against the Governors. The southpaw is third in the conference with a 2.70 ERA in OVC play.

EKU leads the all-time series between the two schools, 36-33. The Colonels took two of three from the Governors last year in Clarksville. They also took two of three from APSU when the Governors last visited Turkey Hughes Field in 2008.

Sophomore Michael Garcia hit two home runs against APSU last year. Current Colonels Anthony Ottrando, Jayson Langfels and Jacob Daniel also went yard in that series against the Governors.
