RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team’s midweek home game against Xavier on Wednesday has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts; however, the Colonels will still travel to play Dayton on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

The Colonels (22-22) will look to get back above .500 against the Flyers and bounce back after being swept at Murray State this weekend.

Dayton (20-28) dropped two of three at home to Massachusetts over the weekend.

Sophomore Richie Rodriguez had a big week for the Colonels as he smashed a triple and his first career grand slam in EKU’s win over Ohio on Wednesday and then hit another triple and scored four runs in the series with Murray State. The shortstop from Miami is now hitting .372 on the season and has swiped a team-best 14 bases.

Junior Jayson Langfels leads the Colonels with a .382 batting average, but the All-American third baseman is hitless in his last four games and will look to get back on track in time for the Colonels’ big series at home against Jacksonville State this weekend.

EKU will start freshman right-hander Austin Rexroat (2-1, 7.97 ERA in 20.1 innings of work) against the Flyers. Rexroat has not pitched since April 13 due to injury.

Brian Blasik leads Dayton offensively with a .351 batting average while Cole Tyrell (16 doubles, 43 RBI) and Aaron Dunsmore (11 home runs, 43 RBI) provide run production for the Flyers.

The Colonels lead the all-time series between the two schools, 9-3-1.

EKU defeated Dayton, 10-4, at Time Warner Cable Stadium in 2008 and junior Ryan Faidley went 2-for-4 in that game with an RBI and two runs scored. The Flyers returned the favor last year, though, as they beat EKU at Turkey Hughes Field, 12-5. Senior Anthony Ottrando batted 2-for-5 in that game with a home run.

The Colonels will host Jacksonville State this weekend at Turkey Hughes Field in their final OVC series of the regular season.
