RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will play its final road game of the regular season on Tuesday night as the Colonels head to Louisville to face the no. 10 Cardinals at Jim Patterson Stadium at 6:00 p.m. EKU upset Louisville, 7-5, in the teams’ last meeting on March 3, 2009 at Turkey Hughes Field.

The Colonels enter this week with a record of 24-24 (9-12 OVC) after dropping two of three games to Jacksonville State at home last weekend.

Louisville is 42-10 (18-6 BIG EAST) on the year after a series win over St. John’s last weekend. The Cardinals are just a half game behind conference leader Connecticut.

EKU will send freshman right-hander Austin Rexroat (2-1, 6.94 ERA in 23.1 innings of work) to the mound on Tuesday, although numerous pitchers on staff are expected to see work.

The Colonel are led at the plate by junior Jayson Langfels, who comes into this week hitting .384 with 14 home runs, 14 double and a team-best 59 runs scored. Senior Anthony Ottrando leads the team with 16 home runs and 65 RBI.

Louisville is paced offensively by Andrew Clark’s .393 batting average. Phil Wunderlich provides some pop for the Cardinals, as evidenced by his 19 home runs and 54 RBI.

Louisville leads the all-time series between the two schools, 57-48-1.

Current Colonels Ottrando and senior Joey Stevens had big games against the Cardinals in EKU’s upset last year. Ottrando batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Stevens blasted an opposite field two-run home run in the bottom of the third to give the Colonels the lead.

Following their game with Louisville, the Colonels will conclude the regular season at home this weekend with a three game series against SIU Edwardsville.
