RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will host Ohio today in a midweek non-conference matchup at Turkey Hughes Field at 4:00 p.m. The Colonels have not played a game in 10 days thanks to four consecutive cancellations.

The Colonels (21-19) last played on April 25 at UT Martin when they swept a doubleheader from the Skyhawks. Their ensuing midweek game at Western Kentucky was then cancelled due to scheduling conflicts and their three-game series at home against Tennessee Tech was washed out.

The Bobcats (14-29) lost 22 of their first 25 games to begin this season; however, they have bounced back to win 11 of their last 18, including a 6-3 victory over Dayton on Tuesday night.

EKU will start sophomore lefty Greg Terry (3-2, 5.64 ERA in 44.2 innings of work) on the mound, but numerous pitchers on staff are scheduled to see action today.

It will primarily be a staff day for Ohio as well.

The Colonels enter this week with a team batting average of .316. Junior third baseman Jayson Langfels leads EKU and is seventh in the OVC with a .409 batting average. He is also third in the league with 55 runs scored and sixth with 14 home runs. The Lexington, Ky. native recently became the OVC record-holder for career triples with 18.

Senior Anthony Ottrando has come on strong lately after batting above .500 two weeks ago, smashing four doubles and driving in eight runs. The clean-up hitter from Ocala, Fla. is now 10th in the league with a .374 batting average and third in the league with 58 RBI. He is slugging an impressive .735 on the season.

Sophomore Richie Rodriguez and junior Ryan Faidley have also delivered stellar seasons for the Colonels so far. Rodriguez is batting .368 on the year with a team-best 13 stolen bases. He is also the fifth toughest batter in the league to strike out with only 0.33 strikeouts per game. Faidley, meanwhile, is hitting .358 with 10 home runs after hitting exactly zero home runs in his first two seasons as a Colonel.

Gauntlett Eldemire leads Ohio with a .381 batting average and 11 stolen bases. Robert Maddox III, meanwhile, has provided run production for the Bobcats, hitting a team-best 12 home runs and driving in a team-best 53 RBI.

The Bobcats are hitting .292 as a team.

The Colonels lead the all-time series between the two schools, 3-1. Ohio beat EKU for the first time ever last season when the Bobcats won in Athens, 6-3.

The game is a makeup of a game originally scheduled for March 2.
