TERRE HAUTE, Ind.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will try to earn its first road win of the season when the Colonels travel to play a three-game series with Indiana State this weekend on Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium. Game one is Friday at 6 p.m., game two is Saturday at 2 p.m., and and game three is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

EKU (6-10) is 0-8 on the road this season and was swept at West Virginia in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday. However, ISU (6-9) is just 1-4 at home and has lost three straight there, two to Western Michigan and one to Western Illinois.

The Colonels are hitting .280 as a team entering the weekend. Junior Richie Rodriguez had three hits in the doubleheader with West Virginia and leads EKU with a .429 batting average. Sophomores Matt Phipps (.333) and Austin Grisham (.327) also had three hits apiece on Wednesday and are above .300 on the season. Junior Jacob Daniel crushed his fourth home run of the season versus the Mountaineers and is second on the team with a .352 batting average while leading the team with 19 RBI.

EKU will trot out the same pitching rotation that swept UNC Asheville at Turkey Hughes Field last weekend. Junior right-hander Matt Fyffe (0-2, 3.75) will start game one, freshman lefty Kyle McGrath (2-0, 7.31 ERA) will start game two and senior right-hander Stephen Hefler (2-1, 2.10 ERA) will start game three.

The Sycamores enter the weekend hitting .292 as a team and are led by Tyler Wampler’s .370 batting average. Robby Ort, meanwhile, leads ISU with three home runs, 13 RBI and a .538 slugging percentage.

Right-hander Colin Rea (3-1, 4.68 ERA) will start game one for ISU while right-hander Jason Van Skike (2-1, 4.07 ERA) will start game two and left-hander Sean Manaea (1-2, 4.95 ERA) will go in game three.

This weekend's series with will be the seventh, eighth and ninth meetings between the teams, with Indiana State leading the series, 5-1. The Sycamores and Colonels last met in 2003 when ISU swept a three-game series at Turkey Hughes Field. EKU’s last win over ISU came the year before in 2002.

Following this weekend’s series, the Colonels play Miami (Ohio) in a home and home series on Tuesday and Wednesday before opening the conference season with a three-game series against Eastern Illinois next weekend.
