RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will host Marshall in a midweek game on Tuesday, March 29, at 3:00 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, the home of the Lexington Legends. Admission AND parking are FREE!

EKU (7-17) dropped two of three games at Eastern Illinois over the weekend as the Colonels opened conference play in frigid Charleston, Ill. Senior Ryan Faidley batted .300 in the three-game set with a home run, two doubles and four RBI. In the Colonels’ extra-innings 9-7 win over the Panthers on Saturday, junior Richie Rodriguez blasted a three-run triple and sophomore Alex Hughes hit a tape-measure two-run homer in the top of the 10th that proved to be the difference-maker.

Rodriguez enters this week batting .396 with a team-best 16 runs scored and nine stolen bases. Junior Jacob Daniel, meanwhile, is hitting .349 with a team-best four home runs and 21 RBI. EKU is batting .263 as a team.

Marshall (9-13) also dropped two of three games in its conference opening weekend at UAB. Kenny Soccoro leads the Thundering Herd with a .313 batting average, while Rhett Stafford has blasted a team-high three home runs and provided 16 RBI. Marshall enters the week hitting .259 as a team.

EKU will start sophomore right-hander Anthony Bazzani (0-5, 12.23 ERA) on Tuesday. Bazzani struggled early in the season, but showed flashes of his potential in his last start at Miami (Ohio) when he went 6.2 innings and surrendered only four runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Marshall, meanwhile, will send right-hander Aaron Blair (0-1, 7.36 ERA) to the mound.

EKU and Marshall traditionally play a home-and home series every year; however, this is the first time the two clubs will meet at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

EKU leads the all-time series between the two schools, 33-26. The Colonels swept the Thundering Herd last year, defeating them 10-6 at Turkey Hughes Field and 10-0 at Marshall.

The Colonels continue conference play this weekend when they host Southeast Missouri in a three-game set at Turkey Hughes Field. First pitch for Saturday’s doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m.
