MEMPHIS, Tenn.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will face Southern Illinois, Memphis and Oral Roberts in the Memphis Baseball Classic this weekend at FedEx Park. EKU (3-5) opens play against SIU (2-6) on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. EST.

The Salukis’ two wins came against Grambling State and Nicholls State in February. SIU has since been swept by South Carolina and defeated by the OVC team picked to finish last in the conference, UT Martin. Jordan Sivertsen leads the Salukis with a .345 batting average, four doubles and five RBI. Right-hander Cameron Maldonado (0-2, 16.50 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for SIU.

EKU will face host Memphis (6-2) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. EST. The Tigers swept Evansville at FedEx Park to open the season, fell at Ole Miss and then took two of three at Kennesaw State. Drew Martinez has compiled a .483 batting average to lead Memphis early in the season while Jacob Wilson has driven in a team-best 17 runs. Southpaw Ryan Holland (1-1, 3.77 ERA) is slated to throw for the Tigers on Saturday.

The Colonels will finish the weekend against Oral Roberts on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EST. The Golden Eagles opened the season by dropping two of three at Baylor, then lost to Wichita State before winning two games over future OVC opponent SIU Edwardsville. Nick Baligod leads ORU at the plate with a .367 batting average. The Golden Eagles’ Sunday starter has yet to be determined.

EKU split a two-game series with Western Carolina this week at Turkey Hughes Field. The Colonels racked up 13 hits and defeated the Catamounts 12-8 on Tuesday, but could only muster two hits in a 5-0 shutout defeat on Wedneday.

Junior Richie Rodriguez continues to lead EKU offensively as he is now batting .545 through eight games with four doubles and six runs scored. Freshman Bryan Soloman is now batting .361 on the year after he went 5-for-6 with three RBI, four runs scored and his first collegiate home run against WCU on Tuesday.

The Colonels will send their normal weekend rotation to the mound in Memphis as sophomore right-hander Anthony Bazzani (0-2, 10.38 ERA) will face SIU, freshman lefty Kyle McGrath (1-0, 6.30 ERA) will face Memphis and senior right-hander Stephen Hefler (1-0, 1.59 ERA) will face ORU.

Following this weekend’s tournament, EKU will travel up I-75 to Lexington on Tuesday to face Kentucky at 4:00 p.m. EST.
