Box Score I Play-by-Play
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team was shut out, 4-0, in its series finale at USC Upstate on Sunday afternoon at Harley Park. With the loss, the Colonels drop to 2-5 on the season.
EKU wasted a quality start from junior left-hander
Shane Grimm (0-2), who got the loss despite pitching six strong innings and allowing just two unearned runs on six hits while striking out three batters.
Brandon Lee (1-1) picked up the complete game shutout for Upstate (6-1), as he went all nine innings and surrendered only four hits while striking out 12 Colonels.
Senior
Richie Rodriguez led EKU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Juniors
Austin Grisham and
Shaun Ball had the Colonels’ other two hits.
Luke Weber went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI to pace the Spartan offense.
Upstate took advantage of two early Colonel errors to take a 2-0 lead through six innings. However, the Spartans opened up their lead in the bottom of the seventh when Weber laced a two-run single to center.
EKU has this week off before opening up its home schedule in a three-game set with Indiana State next weekend at Turkey Hughes Field.
