RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will play host to Marshall on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Turkey Hughes Field. The game is the first of three midweek contests to be played between the Colonels and the Thundering Herd this season.

EKU (8-15) and Marshall (10-13) will meet again on April 25 and May 9. Both of those games will be played in Huntington.

EKU dropped two of three to conference foe Jacksonville State at home over the weekend. The Colonels won game three of the series, 3-2, to snap a six-game losing skid. Junior left-hander Shane Grimm tossed 6.2 strong innings in that game, scattering nine hits and allowing just one run.

Senior Richie Rodriguez leads EKU offensively with a .353 batting average, eight home runs and 22 RBI. EKU, as a team, leads the Ohio Valley Conference with 30 home runs.

Marshall lost two of three games at UAB over the weekend. The Herd is paced offensively be Alfredo Brito, who enters this week batting .325 with three home runs and 16 RBI.

EKU will send freshman right-hander Cody Creamer (0-1, 8.38 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday. Creamer has made two midweek starts this season against UNC Greensboro and Indiana.

Marshall will counter with right-hander Lance Elder (0-1, 5.68 ERA).

EKU leads the all-time series between the two schools, 30-20, although Marshall took two of three games from the Colonels last season.

Following Tuesday’s midweek game, EKU will prepare for a three-game conference set with SIUE at Turkey Hughes Field this weekend.
