CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Eastern Kentucky split a doubleheader at Southeast Missouri today.  The Redhawks won game one 5-3 before EKU captured game two 7-1.

SEMO won the three-game series 2-1.

Eastern Kentucky (5-11, 2-4 OVC) carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning.  With the bases loaded and one out, Sean Hagen drew a walk to start a five-run inning.  A double by Austin Grisham platted two more for a 5-0 lead.  After another walk loaded up the bases again, Doug Teegarden doubled down the right field line to bring home two more runs.

Southeast added a run in the bottom half of the inning but never got any closer.  Brent Cobb (2-3) was spectacular for eight innings on the mound for EKU.  He allowed one run on eight hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Teegarden finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs.  Demetrius Moorer had two hits and scored twice.

Errors doomed the Colonels in game one.  Eastern committed two of its four errors in the first four innings as the Redhawks built a 5-0 lead.  A wild pitch and an error led to two of the three runs SEMO scored in the second inning.  Clayton Evans scored in the fourth on a throwing error to push the margin to five.

RBI singles by Teegarden and Shaun Ball highlighted a three-run sixth inning for EKU as the Colonels drew within two.  Eastern never threatened to get closer the rest of the way.

Moorer went 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Ball had two hits in four at bats and an RBI.  Shane Grimm (2-1) suffered his first loss.  He allowed five runs on 10 hits in six innings of work, but only two of the runs were earned.  He walked one and struck out five.

Cole Bieser, Matt Tellor and Evans all had two hits for Southeast.  Evans scored twice.  Zack Smith (2-2) earned the win after allowing three runs on six hits in five innings.  He walked two and struck out two.

The Colonels will return to action on Friday when they begin a three-game home series against OVC newcomer Belmont.  Game one is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
