EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – It took 14 innings, but Eastern Kentucky beat Southern Illinois University 7-5 on Saturday.  With their second straight win over SIUE, the Colonels have now won three straight OVC series.

Austin Grisham led off the 14th inning with a single to right field and then stole second base.  He moved to third on a single by Doug Teegarden.  After a walk loaded the bases, Shaun Ball’s single to right center drove in two runs.

Myles Scott (1-1), who was exceptional in six and two-thirds innings of relief, retired the first two batters in the bottom of the 14th before three straight Cougars reached base.  With the winning run on first, Cody Creamer came in and struck out Drew Johnson to end the game.

Scott allowed just three hits and two walks while pitching more than six innings of scoreless relief.  Teegarden finished 3-for-6 with two runs scored.  Sean Hagen went 3-for-6 with three runs scored.  Ball had two hits in six at bats, scored once and drove in three.

EKU (13-23, 9-8 OVC) tied the game with two runs in the top of the eighth.  Teegarden led off with a walk, Hagen followed with a single and Ball drew a walk to load the bases.  After the first out was recorded, Alex Hughes was hit by a pitch, forcing in one run.  A wild pitch moments later allowed Ball to score the tying run and make it 5-5.

Skyler Geissinger went 3-for-7 with two RBIs for SIU Edwardsville (9-24, 7-12 OVC).  Johnson also had three hits.

Eastern jumped out in front first with a pair of runs in the first inning.  Ball drove in a run with a double to left center and Kyle Nowlin followed with an RBI single to right.

The Cougars tied the score in their half of the third inning on Geissinger’s two-out, two-run double to left field.  SIU grabbed the lead with two more in the fifth.  Joel Greatting hit a two-out, two-run home run to make it 4-2.  Nowlin’s sacrifice fly in the sixth cut the deficit to one, but SIU Edwardsville answered in the bottom half of the inning when Devin Caldwell scored on a ground ball.

Ben Gullo started for Eastern and allowed five runs on six hits.  He walked seven batters and struck out six.  Jake Stauffenberg (2-3) suffered the loss.  He pitched six innings of scoreless relief before being charged with the two runs in the 14th inning.  He walked one and struck out three.
