RICHMOND, Ky. –
The two teams combined for 27 hits and 23 runs, but Eastern Kentucky fell to Southeast Missouri, 15-8, in the Ohio Valley Conference baseball series opener at Turkey Hughes Field on Friday.

Due to expected inclement weather on Sunday, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

The Redhawks (11-6, 4-0 OVC) broke a 4-4 tie with five runs in the fourth.  A double by Clayton Evans platted two runs.  Later in the inning, a triple by Cole Bieser to left center pushed in two more.  Derek Gibson finished off the scoring in the inning with an RBI infield single.

The Colonels (7-10, 1-3 OVC) got two back in the bottom half of the fourth on an RBI double from Bryan Soloman and a sacrifice fly by Kenny Hostrander to cut the SEMO lead to 9-6.  A solo home run by Sean Hagen in the bottom of the fifth drew the home team within two, 9-7.  It was Hagen's second home run of the game, having hit a solo shot in the first.

Gibson's two-run double in the sixth pushed the Redhawks in front 11-7.  A costly EKU error led to a four run eighth as SEMO pulled away.

Hagen had a 3-for-3 day for the Colonels.  He hit two home runs, scored twice, drove in three and walked once.  Gibson finished 3-for-3 with a walk, five RBIs and a run scored for the Redhawks.  Matt Tellor was 3-for-5 with a run and three RBIs.

Brent Cobb (2-3) started for Eastern.  He allowed nine runs, eight of which were earned, on 10 hits in four and one-third innings.  He walked three and struck out one.  Christian Hull (1-1) picked up the victory for Southeast after throwing the final four and one third innings.  He gave up one run on three hits, walked two and struck out three.
