Box Score < Become A Fan Of Colonel Baseball On FacebookBox ScoreCLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Despite leading 5-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Eastern Kentucky baseball team lost at Austin Peay, 6-5, in the series opener on Friday.
APSU (17-25, 9-10 OVC) tied it on Logan Gray's two-out RBI single to right field. Two batters later, on a full count to Cayce Bredlau, Anthony Bazzani's pitch was outside and went to the backstop. Gray scored the game-winner from third base.
TJ Alas went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Colonels (20-22, 9-10 OVC).
Kyle Nowlin had two hits in five at bats and scored three times.
Nowlin beat out an infield hit to lead off the ninth inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs,
Sean Hagen singled to right to drive in the go-ahead run.
Eastern grabbed the early lead with three runs in the top of the second. With two outs and the bases loaded, Alas singled to right field to plate the first two runs.
Bryan Soloman followed with an infield single that allowed Nowlin to score from third.
Alas added to the EKU lead in the fourth. After Nowlin doubled to left center, Alas drove him home with a single up the middle.
The Governors got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Griffin Ganick's sacrifice fly scored the first run. A two-out double by Ridge Smith on a fly ball that was lost in the lights cut the Eastern Kentucky lead in half. A throwing error on a ground ball allowed Smith to score and made it a one-run game. Gray's single through the left side completed the rally and tied it 4-4.
Gray finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs for Austin Peay.
Eastern starter
Tanner Perkins allowed four runs, only two of which were earned, on eight hits in seven and one-third innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven. Alex Robles started for APSU and allowed four runs, only one of which was earned, on eight hits. He walked one and struck out 13 batters.
The two teams will continue their series on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
