RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team looks to keep its winning streak going as it makes the 29-mile journey north to take on the University of Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday at Cliff Hagan Stadium in Lexington. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
Â
Eastern won last year's matchup in Lexington 5-4, when senior
Cole Warrenfeltz drove in the game winning RBI in the sixth. EKU had been down 4-0 going into the fifth inning, but rattled off five unanswered runs to take control of the game and earn its second win over a SEC team in 2016.
Â
The Colonels (3-5) are on a three-game winning streak after sweeping their weekend series against Oakland. Junior
Jack Piekos blazed the trail for the series opener with a dominant performance from the mound, striking out 11 batters while not allowing any walks and giving up a lone run through seven innings. Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth on Saturday, sophomore
Alex Holderbach doubled to bring senior
Ben Fisher home, ensuring a 2-1 win for the Colonels. Entering the bottom of the fourth on Sunday the game was tied 3-3, but a three-run inning for EKU put them firmly in front and they would not look back, eventually winning 9-4.

Junior
Cornell Nixon is tied for tenth in the nation in stolen bases while being tied for the lead in the Ohio Valley Conference with five on the year. Nixon also has five RBIs and is tied for the team high in hits with 10. Sophomore
Ryland Kerr also has 10 hits, and has a team high eight RBIs, which puts him in a tie for fifth in the OVC. Â Fisher leads the team and OVC in doubles with five.Â
