RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU baseball team is set to host the Youngstown State Penguins for a three-game series this weekend. Friday's game will move to Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, and the start time has been bumped up to 2 p.m.  Both Saturday's and Sunday's games will be played at the new Earle Combs Stadium in Richmond and will start at 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.Â
Â
The Colonels (3-6) are hoping to get back on track this weekend after falling to Kentucky in a mid-week matchup. Before the mid-week hiccup, EKU was on a three-game winning streak after sweeping Oakland last weekend. Â
Â
The Penguins (1-5) started the season with five straight losses before notching their first win of the year against No. 17 Georgia Tech last Sunday.
Â
EKU's offense this season has been propelled by seniors
Ben Fisher and
Shea Sullivan, junior
Cornell Nixon, and sophomore
Ryland Kerr. Nixon leads the team with eight runs and five stolen bases, which is also tied for the most stolen bases in the Ohio Valley Conference. Kerr's eight RBIs lead the squad, while Sullivan is right behind him with seven of his own. Fisher leads the team in hits with 12, and doubles with five.
Â
Jack Piekos will take the mound for Eastern on Friday. The junior has a 2.25 ERA this season. The junior was nearly unhittable last Friday against Oakland, going seven innings and giving up one hit while not walking a single batter. Sophomore
Aaron Ochsenbein will get the ball on Saturday. Ochsenbein is coming off the best start of his career, giving up one earned run through four and two-thirds innings while striking out three batters.
