Colonels Host NKU For Mid-Week Showdown

RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team welcomes the Northern Kentucky University Norse to Earle Combs Stadium for a mid-week showdown on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Free t-shirts will be given out for the first 50 students that arrive at the game, a student ID will be required to get a shirt.
 
The Colonels (12-9, 1-2 OVC) are coming off a weekend series win over Chicago State. Eastern has won seven of its last 10 games, including a mid-week two-game sweep of Alabama A&M last week.
 
The Norse (6-10, 3-0 Horizon) have wins over Georgia State, Radford and Milwaukee this season.
 
The EKU offense is led by reigning adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Ben Fisher. The senior has a team and OVC best eight home runs, 31 RBIs, 34 hits and 31 runs scored.  His eight home runs tie him for fifth in the NCAA, while his 31 runs have him tied for third and the 31 RBIs have him tied for fourth nationally. Daniel McFarland has the highest batting average on the team with .431, and it's the third highest in the OVC. Nick Howie ranks second in the OVC in walks with 17.
 
Eastern will have junior left handed pitcher Casey Collins (1-0) on the bump. Collins is coming off his best performance of the season, a 5.0 inning win against Alabama A&M on March 15. The Lawrenceville, Georgia native struck out five batters and allowed no runs on four hits on his way to the win.
 
NKU will have junior righty Brody Basilone on the mound. Basilone is 0-0 on the season with a 3.12 ERA.
