RICHMOND, Ky. – Due to inclement weather the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team postponed its home game against No. 4 Louisville on Tuesday, but today's game against rival Western Kentucky will be played as scheduled.
The Colonels face Western Kentucky (4-8) at 4 p.m., and it will be a maroon out. Maroon shirts will be given out to fans while supplies last. This is the first time Eastern has played Western since 2012.
No makeup date for the Louisville game has been set at this time.
The Colonels (6-6) wrapped up their second consecutive non-conference three game sweep over the weekend against Youngstown State. This is the first time in program history where Eastern notched non-conference three-game sweeps on consecutive weekends.
Seniors
Ben Fisher and
Shea Sullivan lead the way for Eastern on the offensive side. Sullivan leads the team with 13 RBIs, while Fisher has 12 of his own. Junior
Cornell Nixon leads both the team and the Ohio Valley Conference with seven stolen bases. Fisher also leads the team in hits with 17, and in doubles with six. Fisher's six doubles also lead the OVC.
On the mound EKU is led by
Jack Piekos, the current addias OVC Co-Pitcher of the Week. Piekos struck out 10 batters over six scoreless innings in EKU's shutout of Youngstown State last Friday. This is the first OVC Pitcher of the Week honors for an EKU pitcher since 2013 when Brent Cobb won the award.
After the Colonels take on the Hilltoppers they'll open OVC play against Belmont in Earle Combs Stadium this weekend.
