RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team looks to keep its five-game winning streak rolling as it heads out to take on the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend at the Simmons Baseball Complex in Edwardsville.
The series opener is set for a 7 p.m., while the Saturday match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start, and the series finale will get underway at 2 p.m. on Sunday. All times are eastern.
Eastern (18-12, 4-5 OVC) has won five games in a row, and seven of its last 10. The Colonels defeated in-state rival Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, 6-5, thanks to a go ahead home run from
Miles Jones in the eighth inning.
EKU's offense is led by
Ben Fisher and his NCAA leading 15 home runs, and 43 runs. Fisher also has the second most RBIs in the nation with 44, and the second highest slugging percentage in the NCAA at .895. McFarland's .380 average is second best on the team, and he's got 20 RBIs, 24 runs, and five home runs as well.
Shea Sullivan's 29 RBIs are the second most on the team, while
Cornell Nixon leads the team and ranks second in the OVC in stolen bases with nine.
Jack Piekos will take the mound for Eastern on Friday, while
Aaron Ochsenbein will be on the bump on Saturday, and
Eric Nerl takes the duties on Sunday.
Once the Colonels return home from Edwardsville it will be a short week of rest as they open a home series against Austin Peay on Thursday, and host the grand opening ceremony of the new Earle Combs Stadium the following night. First pitch for the Thursday game is set for 7 p.m., while the festivities on Friday are set to start at 6 p.m.
