RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team welcomes the University of Tennessee Volunteers for an ALS awareness game on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Earle Combs Stadium.
T-shirts and keychains will be given out before the game while supplies last, and Richmond Mayor Jim Barnes along with his wife Jan Barnes will throw out the first pitch before the game. The Colonels will be wearing special "Band Together to Strike Out ALS" wristbands during the game.
EKU (23-25, 9-15 OVC) is coming off a win at Murray State on Sunday.
Tennessee (24-19, 7-15 SEC) picked up a win over No. 14 Arkansas on Saturday and plays Belmont in Knoxville on Tuesday before heading to Richmond.
The Eastern offense is fueled by
Ben Fisher and his 20 home runs, which ranks second in the NCAA. Fisher's 59 runs rank third in the nation, while he 60 RBIs are tied for sixth nationally.
Nick Howie is tied for second on the team in home runs with eight. The freshman also has 36 RBIs and 45 runs.
Alex Holderbach also has eight home runs this year in addition to his 39 RBIs and 56 hits.
The Volunteers are led by Jordan Rodgers and his seven home runs, 31 RBIs and 62 hits. Jeff Moberg also has seven homers to go along with his 29 RBIs and 57 hits.
"Band Together to Strike Out ALS" is a movement started by former Boston College player Pete Frates and his family. Frates was diagnosed with ALS in March 2012 at the age of 27, and immediately he and his support system started working to raise awareness about ALS and help drive ALS research funding.

The Colonels will stay home to host Tennessee Tech for the last home series of the season this weekend. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, and the Saturday will be senior day, with festivities set to start before the 4 p.m. game time.
