EKU Welcomes Back 2004-05 Team Against App State, Host Morehead State Sunday

Concludes Home Stand Before Heading to Ireland

RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU women's basketball is set to conclude a three-game home stand to start the 2022-23 campaign this weekend as the Colonels host Appalachian State on Friday, Nov. 11 and Morehead State on Sunday, Nov. 13 inside Baptist Health Arena
 
Both contests this weekend will be aired live on ESPN+. Fans can tune into the radio broadcast 92.5 WEKY with Wes Chandler on the call. Season and single game tickets are available for purchase on the Colonels' website.
 
Redshirt senior Antwainette Walker led the charge for Eastern Kentucky in the season opener and her Colonel debut. The Lisle, Ill. native scored a career-high 29 points on 12-of-24 (.500) shooting for a top-10 value in the country on opening night. She added 10 rebounds in the tilt for her first double-double in maroon.
 
Walker's 29 points was the highest point total from an EKU women's basketball student-athlete since 2017.
 
Redshirt junior Ariel Kirkwood followed her teammates offensive showing with a double-double of her own, putting up 11 points and bringing down 15 rebounds.
 
Eastern Kentucky will honor the 2004-05 women's basketball squad who finished the season with a 23-8 record, 13-0 at home, and OVC Regular Season and Tournament champions. The team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a R64 loss against Arizona State in Fresno, Calif.

Sunday's game against Morehead is $2 day at the arena, fans can secure general seating tickets, popcorn, and soda for just $2.

Eastern Kentucky Notes
- Head coach Greg Todd looks to improve his 10-6 record inside Alumni Coliseum this weekend.
- EKU forced 25 turnovers in the season opener, the highest value since last February against Central Arkansas.
- After totaling a top-15 value in the country last season in made free-throws, the Colonels started the 2022-23 campaign inside the top-50 after Monday's loss to Evansville.
- With six assists in the season opener against Evansville, point guard Alice Recanati has led the team in assists in 44-of-56 (.785) of games in her three-year career with EKU.
- At 29 points per game through one contest, Walker sits top-20 in the nation in field goals made and points.
- With a start against Evansville, graduate Danielle Rainey began her seventh season of college basketball, having prior stints at Florida, Texas Christian, and Eastern Michigan.
 
All-Time vs. App State
- Friday's game is the eighth meeting in the series between App State and EKU, the Colonels lead the head-to-head total 5-2.
- Last season, EKU won an 89-84 (OT) nailbiter in Boone, N.C., Recanati led the Colonels with 21 points and four assists.
 
Scouting the Mountaineers
- Head coach Angel Elderkin is in her ninth season with the program with an overall record of 106-136 (.438).
- App State opened its season with a double-overtime 98-94 loss on the road against Charlotte.
- With 94 points in the opener, the Mountaineers sit at 29th in the country in scoring offense.
- Four App State players scored in double-figures in the season opener: Lauren Carter (25.0), Chae Harris (22.0), Janay Sanders (17.0), Emily Carver (15.0).
- Carter hit 6-of-8 (.750) from beyond the arch against Charlotte.
 
All-Time vs. Morehead State
- EKU and Morehead State look to battle in the 50th anniversary of the rivalry between the two programs dating back to 1972.
- Eastern Kentucky owns a 56-46 overall record over the in-state Eagles.
- Sunday's matchup is the 103rd meeting in the series.
- Last season EKU won a commanding 66-43 tilt in Morehead, Kirkwood totaled a double-double in the affair (11 points, 12 boards).
 
Scouting the Eagles
- Cayla Petree is in her second season at the helm of the program with an overall record of 1-28.
- Morehead State fell to South Florida on the road on Nov. 7 by a score of 87-40 in the season opener.
- The Eagles will travel to regional foe Kentucky on Friday before making their way to Richmond on Sunday.
- 10-of-12 Morehead State players scored at least two points in the opener, Veronica Charles led the Eagles with nine points in 33 minutes of action.
