BOSTON/LOUISVILLE – It was a record-setting indoor season opener for the EKU men's and women's track and field teams at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener
and KTCCCA Commonwealth College Opener on Saturday.
In Boston,
Taha Er Raouy got off the line hot, breaking the school record in the invite section of the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 7:40.56, finishing 6
th in a mixed field of top collegiate athletes and professionals.
A few races later,
Edna Chelulei set the EKU indoor record in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 15:42.14, finishing 12
th overall.
In Louisville, the EKU Throwers put on a show as
Daroyce Flemons and
Kristan Simmons set new program records in the men's and women's weight throw.
Flemons made an impressive EKU debut, winning the event with his record-breaking throw of 17.81m (58-05.25) as the Colonels swept the podium with Matt See finishing second (16.5m, 54-01.75),
JJ Love in third (15.76m, 51-08.50), and
William Kissick in fourth (15.03m, 49-03.75).
On the women's side, Simmons and
Lariah Wooden took the top two spots with Simmons' record-breaking throw of 17.28m (56-08.50) while Wooden had a personal-best throw of 16.93m (55-06.50).
Wooden took the top spot in the women's shot put with a season-opening mark of 13.02m (42-08.75).
Matt See and
JJ Love took first and second in the men's shot put with marks of 14.46m (47-05.25) and 13.83m (45-04.50), respectively.
Also earning a top-place finish was
Jacob Tapscott in the men's mile in a time of 4:28.47, a personal best and over ten seconds faster than the next finisher.
Irene Rubio-Miralles took second in the women's mile in 5:15.77, also a personal best, while
Isabelle Shearer finished third in the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 11:08.48.

The Colonels will next compete in 2026 at the Bellarmine Open on January 16.
