After Eight Straight At Home, Colonels Hit The Road To Face No. 13 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After playing eight straight games at home,  Eastern Kentucky University will play at No. 13 Vanderbilt on Tuesday in Nashville.
 
The game will begin at 7 p.m. ET and air live on the SEC Network+.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (4-20, 3-3 ASUN) won one of three over the weekend against North Alabama.
 
-  In his last six games, sophomore catcher Silas Shaffer is batting .400 with four runs and eight RBIs.
 
-  Newcomer Wyatt Foley hasn't started a game this season, but he has earned the win in three of EKU's four victories.  He is tied for fifth in the ASUN Conference in wins.

-  Freshman Burkley Bounds hasn't allowed a run in his last two appearances out of the bullpen.  In 3 2/3 innings he has given up two hits, walked one and struck out seven.
 
-  Elijah Underhill will get the ball for the Colonels.  The sophomore pitched four scoreless innings in his last start, which came against Marshall last Tuesday.  He hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning of EKU's victory over North Alabama on Sunday.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Vanderbilt is 19-5 overall and 4-2 in Southeastern Conference games.  The Commodores are coming off a weekend sweep of Texas A&M at home.
 
-  Junior first baseman Riley Nelson leads the team in average (.373) and runs scored (24).  Freshman third baseman Brodie Johnston is hitting .355 while leading the team in home runs (4) and RBIs (24).
 
-  The bullpen trio of right-hander Alex Kranzler, righty Sawyer Hawks and left-hander Miller Green have combined for 22 appearances, eight saves and seven earned runs in 46 innings of work.
 
-  Freshman Austin Nye will start on the mound for the Commodores.  The right-hander is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA in five starts this season.  He has allowed just two runs on seven hits and struck out 17 in 13 1/3 innings.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  The all-time series is tied 2-2.  EKU is 1-2 in games played in Nashville, winning 6-5 on March 14, 2018.  The first-ever meeting came on Feb. 28, 1992 in Macon, Georgia.
 
-  Vanderbilt has won the last two contest between the two teams, including a 5-3 victory on Feb. 21, 2024.
