RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will host Chicago State this weekend in a three game non-conference series at Turkey Hughes Field. The Colonels will then have a week off before hosting Southeast Missouri State in a crucial conference series over the following weekend.

First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EST. Saturday’s game is set to get started at 3:00 p.m. EST, and Sunday’s game will get underway at 1:00 p.m. EST.

EKU leads the all time series between these two schools 3-0 as the Colonels swept the Cougars in a three game set in 2004.

The Colonels are 10-1 in non-conference home games this year and are hitting well above 4.00 as a team at Turkey Hughes Field.

EKU currently sits in seventh place in the OVC, a half a game behind Tennessee Tech and a full game behind Morehead State. The top six teams in the conference at the end of the season make the OVC Tournament.

The Colonels (21-20, 7-10 OVC) snapped an eight-game conference losing streak last Sunday, roughing up preseason All-American Ben Tootle and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 9-3.

Despite dropping 12 of their last 15 games, the Colonels have continued to thrive at the plate. As a team, EKU is hitting just below .350 and averaging nearly 10 runs per game.

Senior Matt Davis is second in the OVC with a .447 batting average and he leads the country with 1.70 runs scored per game. The speedy centerfielder is also tops in the OVC with 17 doubles and 21 stolen bases.

Sophomore Jayson Langfels is right behind Davis with a .441 batting average, good enough for third in the conference. The third-baseman leads the OVC with six triples, is second in the league with an .801 slugging percentage, and is fourth in the nation with 1.67 RBI per game. Langfels also leads the Colonels with nine home runs.

Freshman LHP Greg Terry (1-1) is set to start on the hill for the Colonels on Friday. Sophomore RHP Matt Fyffe (3-4) will get the nod on Saturday and sophomore Paul Duncan LHP (5-5) will go for EKU on Sunday.

The Cougars enter this weekend’s series with a record of 3-35. They are led at the plate by Patrick Hernandez, who carries a .363 batting average into this weekend’s games.
