RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will begin a long homestand by hosting Bowling Green State in a three-game set at Turkey Hughes Field this weekend. The Colonels play 11 of their next 12 games at home.

First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., while games on Saturday and Sunday are set to begin at 1:00 p.m.

EKU (6-9) went 3-2 on its five-game Spring Break trip last week. The Colonels finished off the road swing by taking two of three games at Wofford.

EKU has hit the ball well early in the season. Entering this week, the Colonels are ranked fourth in the nation with 23 home runs. Individually, senior Richie Rodriguez is ranked fourth in the nation and leads the Ohio Valley Conference with seven round-trippers, which is already a career high for the four-year starter.

Rodriguez also leads EKU with a .393 batting average, while senior #A.J. Jamison is hitting .340 and junior Austin Grisham is hitting .333. Sophomore Sean Hagen# batted a team-high .429 over the Colonels’ Spring Break trip and has raised his batting average to .270 on the season.

EKU has also been running well this spring, as the Colonels lead the OVC with 22 stolen bases on 28 attempts. Grisham has notched a team-high six stolen bases so far.

BGSU (4-11) has lost four of its last five games, but did beat Dayton, 3-2, in its home opener on Tuesday. The Falcons are scheduled to play Malone at home on Wednesday before making the trip to Richmond.

T.J. Losby leads BGSU with a .404 batting average and 12 RBI. The Falcons have only hit two home runs this season, compared to the Colonels’ 23

EKU will trot out the same rotation as last weekend: senior right-hander Matt Harris (1-2, 7.59 ERA) on Friday, senior left-hander Greg Terry (1-1, 4.26 ERA) on Saturday and junior left-hander Shane Grimm (1-3, 5.59 ERA) on Sunday. Senior right-hander Matt Fyffe (3-0, 1.06 ERA) has been the Colonels’ best arm out of the bullpen this season, as he ranks second in the OVC in ERA and fourth in opponent batting average (.200).

BGSU will counter with right-hander Cody Apthorpe (0-2, 6.75 ERA) on Friday, right-hander Ethan McKenny (0-4, 7.94 ERA) on Saturday and left-hander Andrew Lacinak (0-1, 4.91 ERA) on Sunday.

BGSU leads the all-time series between the two schools, 20-5, and the Falcons swept the Colonels in a three-game series at Turkey Hughes Field in 2010.
