RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU track and field teams will compete at the Music City Invite in Nashville at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility and the BU Valentine Invite in Boston at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 10-11). The events in Nashville will start at 11:00 a.m. CT on Friday and will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT on Saturday. In Boston, the first running event for the Colonels begins at 6:40 p.m. and they will start at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Pedro Garcia-Palencia,
Joan Tapias, and
Anouk van Gils are traveling to Boston while the rest of the team will compete at the Music City Invite.
Eight Colonels clocked personal-best times at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invite. Van Gils (4:53.83),
Rolando Ortiz (4:15.33), and
Jake Pyles (4:20.33) ran personal-best in the mile.
Joy Nwokike (25.02) and
Devin Taylor (21.88) clocked career-best times in the 200 meters.
Saskia Pingpank (9:43.30) and
Christina DiFalco (10:05.54) posted personal-best 3,000-meter times for the women while
Enock Kipchumba (8:15.93) ran a career-best 3,000-meter time for the men.
Several Colonels currently rank in the top 5 in the ASUN in their respective events.
Van Gils is No. 4 in the 3,000 meters (9:36.46).
Jone Zabaleta Larranaga ranks No. 1 in the 5,000 meters (16:19.97) while
Grace Kilroy claims No. 2 (17:16.29) for the event.
For the EKU men, Garcia-Palencia ranks No. 5 in the mile (4:08.96). Garcia-Palencia (No. 2 / 8:01.96),
Keeton Thornsberry (No. 3 / 8:04.12), and
Hakim Abouzouhir (No. 5 / 8:06.82) all hold top 5 spots in the men's 3,000 meters. Abouzouhir (No. 2 / 14:07.85), Kipchumba (No. 3 / 14:16.24), and Tapias (No. 4 / 14:22.76) all hold top 5 spots in the men's 5,000 meters.
