SPARTANBURG, S.C.
– Junior left-hander Shane Grimm turned in a quality outing on the mound while seniors Richie Rodriguez and A.J. Jamison, junior Austin Grisham and sophomore Sean Hagen all collected three hits apiece as the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team cruised past host Wofford, 10-2, on Sunday afternoon in the decisive game three of this weekend’s series at King Field.

With the series win, EKU improves to 6-9 on the season. The loss drops Wofford to 8-8.

Grimm (1-3) earned his first win as a Colonel on Sunday, throwing seven innings and surrendering just one earned run on four hits while striking out three batters. Senior right-hander Matt Fyffe and junior right-hander Anthony Bazzani held the Terriers scoreless over the final two innings of the game.

Left-hander Pete Noordsy (1-1) picked up the loss for Wofford, although he did not get much help from his defense. Only one of the four runs Noordsy allowed was earned, as the Terriers committed four errors on the afternoon. Wofford committed 13 errors in the three-game series.

The Colonels collected 13 hits, stole three bases and drew a season-high eight walks as their offense was clicking on all cylinders. Rodriguez finished the game 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI and a run scored, while Jamison was 3-for-6 with two RBI and three runs scored, Grisham was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI and Hagen, who batted a team-best .429 over EKU’s five-game spring break trip, was 3-for-5 with three runs scored.

Stephen Cantrell paced the Wofford offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Rodriguez got the EKU offense going in the top of the third inning with a two-run double down the left field line that plated Jamison and freshman Demetrius Moorer, who was making his first start in center field since Opening Day. Hagen also scored on an error in that inning to make the score 3-0.

Wofford got a run back in the home half of the third, but EKU added another in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the seventh as Jamison singled home a run and then scored, himself, on a wild pitch.

The Colonels then put the game away with four runs in the top of the ninth.

EKU has this week off before hosting Bowling Green State in a three-game series at Turkey Hughes Field over the weekend.
