ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Shea Sullivan's two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie and sent Eastern Kentucky to a 5-2 win over North Carolina Asheville on Saturday.
After beating the Bulldogs (1-6) 3-1 on Friday, the Colonels (3-6) have now secured the series victory.
Ben Fisher got Eastern Kentucky on the board in the second inning with a two-run single up the middle that scored
Cole Warrenfeltz and
Bryan Soloman. UNCA tied the score in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
Luke Wurzelbacher led off the seventh with a single to left. With one out, Warrenfeltz singled to right. A ground ball moved the runners to second and third. Sullivan's single to center drove in both runners and put EKU in front for good.
Wurzelbacher finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Sullivan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Six different Bulldogs finished with one hit each.
Senior newcomer
Tanner Perkins (1-1) turned in his third quality start in as many trips to the mound this season. He tossed seven innings, allowed two runs on five hits, walked one and struck out one.
Cameron Langfels pitched a scoreless eighth inning and
Cody Creamer picked up his second save in as many days after tossing a perfect ninth inning. The EKU relief corps has now pitched 16 and one-third consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
Corey Randall (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in three innings of relief work. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
The two teams will conclude their series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
