Final Results
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Eastern Kentucky University men finished third, while the EKU women took sixth at the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at Hodges Stadium.
The Colonels won 20 individual medals during the three-day meet, including seven gold medals. Six of those seven gold medals came on Championship Saturday.
The EKU men kicked off the track portion of Saturday by sweeping the podium in the 1,500 meters. Steeplechase All-American
Kristian Imroth took gold with a time of 3:42.14, while cross country All-American
Taha Er Raouy was right behind him in 3:45.62.
Mario Priego Montero rounded out the podium with a bronze medal in 3:46.33.
Indoor All-American
Edna Chelulei followed that up by winning gold in the women's 1,500 meters. Chelulei ran away from the field, defeating her nearest competitor by six seconds with a time of 4:16.84.
Bradley Giblin then won the men's 800 meters, lunging at the line to narrowly defeat Queens' Oliver Cooper with a time of 1:49.04.
Not long after that, freshman
Metrine Serem struck gold in the women's 800 meters, clocking a winning time of 2:09.01.
The Colonel men followed that up with another podium sweep, this time of the 5,000 meters.
Miguel Baidal defended his ASUN indoor 5K title, taking gold in the race with a time of 14:17.61. Er Raouy earned his second silver of the day, clocking a time of 14:21.34. Freshman
Brian Kimutai grabbed bronze in a time of 14:21.65.
Ty Blair added two points for the EKU men in the 5,000 meters by finishing seventh (14:46.89).
Freshmen
Brighter Jepchumba and
Morgan Kobylinski then went 1-2 in the women's 5,000 meters to cap off the meet for the Colonels. Jepchumba – the reigning ASUN indoor 5K champion – broke the ASUN Championships record with a time of 16:04.75. Kobylinski took silver with a time of 16:41.77.
Senior
Matthew See also medaled for the EKU men on Saturday, taking silver in the shot put with a throw of 17.35 meters.
Kristan Simmons, meanwhile, won silver in the women's discus, taking second with a big personal-best throw of 47.14 meters. That is the second-best discus toss in EKU history.

Alex Camarca teamed up to finish sixth in the men's 4x100 meter relay (54.57), giving the Colonels three additional points.
The EKU men finished third at the conference meet with 126 points, losing only to host North Florida (164) and champion Central Arkansas (229).
Central Arkansas also won on the women's side with 215 points. The EKU women took sixth, scoring 70 points over the weekend.
Qualified athletes will now compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries May 27-30 in Lexington.
