RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team belted a season-high nine doubles en route to a convincing 10-3 win over Marshall on Tuesday afternoon at Turkey Hughes Field.

Senior Richie Rodriguez led the way with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Bryan Soloman also smacked a pair of doubles, while seniors Michael Garcia and #A.J. Jamison and juniors Austin Grisham#, Alex Hughes and Matt Phipps all joined the doubles-fest with a two-bagger apiece.

Freshman right-hander Cody Creamer started on the mound for EKU and pitched a scoreless top of the first inning, but it was a true staff day as nine different Colonels pitched an inning each in the victory. Sophomore right-hander Brent Cobb (1-0) earned his first career win, and dropped his season ERA to 2.40, as he tossed a scoreless top of the fifth. Senior right-handers Matt Fyffe and Lincoln Wagner, senior left-hander Greg Terry, junior right-handers Anthony Bazzani, Chase Greene and Austin Rexroat and freshman southpaw Nick Bozman all also worked an inning as the Colonel staff surrendered just one earned run on the day.

EKU’s team ERA over the Colonels’ last four games is now 2.50.

Kolin Stanley (0-2) picked up the loss for Marshall without recording an out. The right-hander came on in bottom of the fourth inning with the score tied 3-3 and plunked the first batter he faced, sophomore Steve Ferraro. After Ferraro stole second, Stanley committed consecutive balks to score Ferraro and give EKU a 4-3 lead. Later in the inning, Rodriguez doubled home Phipps and senior Jacob Daniel scored Rodriguez with an RBI groundout to short, making the score 6-3. The Colonels would lead the rest of the way.

Nathan Gomez paced the Thundering Herd offense, as he finished the day 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI.

EKU returns to action this weekend when the Colonels host conference foe SIUE in a three-game set at Turkey Hughes Field. First pitch for Friday’s game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
