Flores was the placekicker for coach Roy Kidd’s EKU Colonels from 1977-80.  During his years at Eastern, he was named to three All-OVC teams, including his junior year when he was a first-team selection.  He kicked perhaps the most important field goal in Eastern history when, in double overtime, he nailed a 20-yard attempt that gave the Colonels a thrilling 33-30 double overtime victory over Nevada Reno and sent EKU to the national championship game at Orlando, Florida.  The season ended with Eastern’s 30-7 victory over Lehigh that produced Eastern’s first national championship. Earlier in the semifinal game, he tied his own school record with a 49-yard boot against the Wolfpack. When he concluded his senior year at Eastern, he held seven OVC single game, single season and career kicking records, which have since been broken. He was the Kentucky UPI College Player of the Week; the first time a placekicker had been chosen for this award.  In addition to his game-winning field goal against Nevada Reno in his junior season, he also had the winning kick in a 1980 victory over Kentucky State. He led the OVC in kick scoring in three seasons, making 38-58 field goals and 126-132 extra points in his EKU career.
