Kevin Greve was a four-year letterwinner at offensive guard for coach Roy Kidd from 1978 to 1981 and was also a member of EKU’s All-Century Football Team which was honored in 2009. As a sophomore, he was a big contributor to the Eastern offense that ran the ball all over a vaunted Lehigh defense in the 1979 national championship game, which resulted in a 30-7 victory for the Colonels and the school’s first national football crown. In that 1979 national title game vs. the LU Engineers, Eastern was able to rush the ball for 288 yards and four TD’s. The first time EKU had the ball against Lehigh, the Colonels, assisted heavily by the blocking of Greve, ran 20 times for 72 yards and a touchdown and didn’t even attempt a pass. For that season, Eastern rushed the ball for 2,827 yards and 33 touchdowns. Greve, as a junior in 1980, helped Eastern rush for 2,662 yards and 31 TD’s, followed by his senior season when EKU led the OVC in total offense with 5,006 yards, an average of 357.6 yards per game, rushed for 40 touchdowns and averaged 26.8 points per contest on its way to a second consecutive national runner-up finish. Greve was a first-team All-OVC choice for three seasons. He was also a Kodak first-team All-American in 1981 while serving as offensive co-captain and a second team Associated Press All-American as a junior in 1980.
