A pioneer in the sport of volleyball, Geri Polvino has extended her influence across local, national and international levels of her beloved sport. Polvino won 627 matches in 32 years at the helm, a number that ranks in the top-15 all-time among Division I ranks.
She led her program to eight Ohio Valley Conference tournament titles in 17 years and five regular-season titles in a 15-year span. She earned conference Coach of the Year honors a record-setting eight times and compiled nine total regular-season league championships and eight tournament titles during her reign.
Her 1984 squad made the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth, earning a prestigious at-large bid. Polvino has served the volleyball community by chairing the CWS Volleyball Rules Committee and being the President of the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport’s Coaches Academy. She also became the first female instructor in the International Volleyball Federation.
Coach Polvino’s former student-athletes credit her with instilling the values of teamwork, patience, loyalty, integrity, discipline, courage and faith in others.
